*Collaborative post. What was the first thing to go through your mind at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve? Mine was that my big 4 0 is rapidly approaching. Teasing me for being nearly 40 was also the first thing my husband said to me this year. What a great way to start 2018! Being two years younger than me he finds it hilarious to wind me up about my age. I’ve still got over 18 months to go until the big day and rather than worry about getting old I intend to embrace it, by planning a big family getaway.
I’ve been looking for self catering properties that can fit around 15 adults and 5 kids. (Yep it will be complete chaos but good fun!) Below are the five party houses in the UK which have taken my fancy. I’ve included a few budget friendly options and a couple of luxury ones too…
Budget friendly – Big family getaway houses
Chels Barn and Toft Barn is the sort of place I would love to own and run as my own self catering business. My boys could run wild here and make as much noise as they want and we wouldn’t disturb any neighbours. It’s located in the Peak District which really appeals to me as it’s the middle of the country so easy to get to and we could spend our days exploring nearby caves, take the cable car ride up to the Heights of Abraham or even visit Alton Towers.
Sleeps 24 guests with 12 bedrooms. Price for a 7 night break from £3,200. (£133 per person. Just £19 per person per night!).
I’m a sucker for converted barns. Hamps Barn, also in the Peak District, has all the barn features you would expect plus a huge dining room which can seat up to 50 guests and the option to hire in a private chef. As a bonus its a ten minute walk away from a rather quaint looking country pub.
Sleeps 20, 9 bedrooms. Price for a 4 night break (enquire online for a 7 night stay) from £2,000. (£100 per person, £14 per person per night).
I love staying in unique places so Oakhill Chapel located in Somerset really appeals to me. (Check out those gorgeous stained glass windows!) The chapel has a large chancel room which would be perfect as a party room, picturesque views of the countryside, a wood burning fire and indoor hot tub.
Sleeps 18 with 6 bedrooms. (No price provided on the website. Enquire here).
Luxury big family getaway houses UK
We visited Pembrokeshire for the first time last summer and completely fell in love with this stunning stretch of coastline. Tenby Manor has 10 acres of private gardens and its own beach. If we decide to stay here I can guarantee we wouldn’t leave during our short break as there is so much to do on site… billiard room, arts & crafts studio, music room, fitness room and terraces with the stunning beach views you can see above!
Sleeps 28 with 11 bedrooms. Price for a 7 night break from £9,750. (The price tag is intimidating but at £348 per person this works out at just £50 per person per night).
Loch Tay Mansion is an old hunting lodge in Killin, Scotland. Built originally for the Earl of Breadalbane in 1753. I’ve not seen much of Scotland and so this would the perfect opportunity. I love the sound of the outdoor activities which could be organised for us here, particularly horse riding and laser clay shooting. There’s an outdoor hot tub and BBQ area for relaxing in the evenings too!
Sleeps 29 with 13 bedrooms. Price for a 7 night break from £11,760 (£405 per person, £57 per person per night).
