At the weekend my family and I were invited to review Roomzzz London Stratford, the newest aparthotel in the UK. I’ll be honest, my first thought when I read the email was – Who are Roomzzz? And secondly, what the heck is an ‘aparthotel’?! Surely it’s an apartment OR a hotel? It can’t be both?! Well in turns out that Roomzzz have found a way to feature the benefits of both types of accommodation… the space and fully kitted out kitchens of a serviced self catering apartment with a 24 hour concierge desk, gym and complimentary breakfast you would expect when staying in a hotel. It’s a genius concept!
It’s no secret that my family and I prefer self catering properties over regular hotel rooms. If you follow me on social media, you may have seen me moaning about creeping around in dark hotel rooms trying to prevent my boys from waking up. Spending my ‘holidays’ sitting in a hotel bathroom with hubby watching movies on an iPad is not my idea of fun. Nor is being woken at the crack of dawn and having nowhere to entertain my energetic boys until breakfast is served! After just a few minutes researching Roomzzz I was already kicking myself for not having stayed at one of their unique properties before.
Who are Roomzzz?
I have clearly been walking around with my eyes shut, (possibly from the lack of sleep after staying in hotels with my kids) for the last 12 years. Roomzzz launched in 2006 with an aparthotel in Leeds. They now have sites in Chester, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle and Nottingham, and two additional sites planned for Liverpool and York. (I know what you’re thinking and yes this is a complete game changer for a family city break!)
Our review: Roomzzz London Stratford
We arrived in London Stratford late on Friday night. The plan had been to check in and order a take away to our apartment. (Which in case you’re wondering is very much encouraged and welcomed rather than frowned upon like when staying in a hotel). Unfortunately, we got stuck in terrible traffic so had to eat at a service station restaurant enroute instead.
After putting our boys to bed hubby and I made ourselves at home. He sprawled out on the sofa with a beer watching the TV whilst I enjoyed a bubble bath with a glass of wine and magazines. It was truly bliss and exactly what a weekend break at a hotel should be like.
Video tour – A sneaky peak around our aparthotel
I’ve shared a video tour around our Liberty Suite, a two bedroom, two-bathroom apartment which caters for six people with a sofa bed in the front room. As I’ve mentioned in the video, the suite caters brilliantly for families, particularly those with more than two children as booking two hotel rooms and eating out with a family can be mega expensive.
Final thoughts – Roomzzz London Stratford
We loved the space, facilities and atmosphere of the aparthotel. Being really picky, the one thing I would change would be the sofa in our front room, which was super stylish but not quite cosy enough for my liking.
As you can tell from my video, my boys felt very grown up being able to play in the living area alone until I woke up and joined them with a brew. (Eventually my hubby woke up too. He really made the most of the peace and had an extra long lay in!)
It was really nice to have the option of eating in our apartment or having breakfast in the very swanky boutique lounge. If we’d stayed for more than one night I would have stocked up and made use of our kitchen however the complimentary breakfast of freshly baked pastries, fruit, yoghurts, juice and hot drinks hit the spot and set us up for the day perfectly.
