One of my travel resolutions for 2016 was to experience a festival as a family. I am delighted that it will be one resolution that I can actually tick of (I wish I could say the same about all of my NY resolutions!) **Read on to enter our Livestock Festival family pass giveaway**
In a few weeks we are heading to Geronimo Festival which proudly boasts of being the biggest children’s festival in the UK. In July we have been invited to Livestock Festival, a three-day event which launched in 2015 and is returning to Gloucestershire this summer for a fun weekend of music, film, camping and comedy. Last year’s inaugural event saw thousands of people flock to see some impressive headliners including Toploader, Scouting For Girls, The Feeling and The Hoosiers. As parents of two young energetic boys my husband and I would not consider taking them to a festival which did not cater for kids. (How things have changed from our V Festival days!) Livestock Festival prides itself on being family-friendly and has an area dedicated to entertaining children. Whilst we hope to spread out a picnic blanket to watch some of the acts above the reality is that we will spend most of our time in the kids area!
Fortunately the kids line up is equally as impressive as the music line up. The festival organisers have ensured that families will be well-catered for, with kids comedy sessions, dragon training workshops, story telling, kids club cinema, pony rides, animal encounters, tractor and trailer rides, Punch and Judy shows and circus skills workshops. There is also going to be a climbing wall on site to entertain the most adventurous of kiddies and if that doesn’t wear them out a rugby session with Rugby Tykes certainly will!
I have discussed the festival with my eldest son Charlie and he is particularly excited about the science show and the chance to get involved with science experiments (he is very predictable! He is a typical 5-year-old boy who just loves the idea of blowing things up!)
We were asked by the festival organisers if we wished to camp overnight. To be honest my first thought was ‘thanks but no thanks!’ I imagined being kept awake all night by hard-core festival party animals and then being woken up at the crack of dawn by my sons… hardly an ideal situation! From watching the video below however I quickly changed my mind. Livestock Festival is set over 40 acres of land, spilt up into three fields for camping and glamping. Unlike other festivals where tents are pitched on top of each other with no space to spread out, the camping at Livestock sounds like the ideal place to let the kids run free whilst hubby enjoy a glass of wine (I can dream!)
Therefore IF the weather is cooperative (I am most definitely a fair weather camping sort of gal!) we plan to fully immerse ourselves in the festival spirit by camping in the dedicated family/quiet camping area. This area I have been reliably told is patrolled to enforce the rule of silence after dark… (I only hope the security will not have to talk with my toddler!)
Need to know – Tickets are priced from £35.00 and children’s from £1.00. A family weekend festival and camping ticket costs £260. This allows entrance to campsite and the festival for the whole weekend – Friday, Saturday, Sunday for 2 Adults and 2 Children 11-17 years of Age. Under 10’s £1.
