Monday Escapes #61

It’s difficult to know what words to use to introduce Monday Escapes today after the horrendous events of the last two weeks.  To be honest I’ve not felt like blogging or posting on social media recently because it seems so pointless and trivial with the horrific events in Manchester and London.  It feels like a bad dream.  I just wish it was a dream and not reality.

Like others I’m struggling to know how to carry on as normal with such awful events taking place.  It’s easy to say life has to go on but this is so hard when the decisions you make could put your children in danger.

I travelled on the train this week with my boys to visit family up north.  I considered cancelling our visit but my boys would have been so upset as they love spending time with their cousins.  I left our bag onboard the train with all of our clothes and more importantly, my youngest sons favourite teddy bear which he has taken everywhere with him since he was a baby.  I was quite emotional about it and my husband had to remind me that the bag contained just ‘stuff’.  Mainly stuff that can be replaced.  He was just relieved that we were all ok because I called him sounding quite upset.  I did learn a lesson from this experience though, to always have my personal contact details inside my luggage.  This is something I always do before checking in our bags onto a flight but something I have never done when travelling by train.

We spent this weekend at Wychwood Festival.  Again we were obviously cautious about going and really appreciated the extra security measures taken to make sure that everyone had a safe and enjoyable weekend.  My boys particularly enjoyed watching their idol, Katy Ashworth, from CBeebies – I Can Cook and Richard and I enjoyed watching live music in the sunshine.

This week I’m linking up my review of our Micro Scooters which we have tested out for the last few weeks.  They accompanied us to Tattershall Lakes and were brilliant for getting us around the holiday park.  They have also halved our journey time to school and are very handy for getting to our local pub!

Monday Escapes

What is Monday Escapes?

Monday Escapes is a place for travel bloggers to link up travel memories and is hosted by myself, Sarah at Extraordinary Chaos, Karen at Mini Travellers and Claire (***your host for this week) at Tin Box Traveller.

Monday Escapes is all about looking back at wonderful, happy travel memories and sharing them with others. It doesn’t have to be about a trip abroad or even be a written post. If you want to share your favourite snapshots – whether it’s a famous sight, scene or dramatic view, then please feel free to link those up, too. Likewise, posts don’t have to be about holidays or weekends away, they can also include day trips, walks, attractions – any travel experience that you want to share.

Karen and Sarah were your hosts for the last Monday Escapes.  Their favourite posts were:

Exploring the Rose Granite Coast by Catherine’s Cultural Wednesdays. Karen is heading to Northern Brittany in late August so was really excited to read this post and look at all the beautiful photos.
She also loved the post from Jenny at Let’s Talk Mommy about their sunny family day out to Chester Zoo. Jenny and her family really made the most of the day and took some fantastic photos.

Sarah loved Travel with Nanob’s post about a day trip to Shibazakura Festival. If you didn’t read this post do head over and have a look as the photos are lovely!

Sarah also chose this post on Glamping at Dorset Valley Yurts by Otis & Us.  It had Sarah (who only does luxury!) thinking about glamping so it must have been good!  Katy is also our winner of the Lonely Planet Book this month.  Katy please do get in touch with one of us to claim your prize!

What’s in it for you?

The number one thing is you’ll be sharing your fantastic posts with a like-minded community and grabbing some travel inspiration for yourself. As a bonus you have a chance to have your blog post and/or hashtagged Instagram posts featured on all four, yes four of the hosts’ blogs each fortnight, introducing your blog to even more people. How great is that?!  Our number one favourite post of the fortnight will also win a Lonely Planet destination guide, or a title from the Lonely Planet Kids range. (*T&C’s – The chosen Lonely Planet book must be in English and can only be sent to bloggers living within Europe).

So how do you join in?

• Link up to one post/photo – old or new.  *** Claire is your host this week at Tin Box Traveller.
• Please make sure to include the Monday Escapes badge at the bottom of the post, on your site, or a link back to the hosts.
• Posts are anything travel-related, and can include photos, reviews, days out, attractions and walks – at home or abroad.
• Comment on posts by the co-hosts and at least two others. Blog hops only work if you share the comment love. That’s why they’re so great!
• If you tweet any of us your links we will be sure to retweet. @travellovinfam@minitravellers@sarahjchristie, @tinboxtraveller
• Monday Escapes will go live every two weeks, alternating between the hosts and will be open Monday to Wednesday. Every fortnight we will be giving a shout out to some of our favourite posts and photos, and choosing a Photo of the Fortnight via Instagram.
• There is also a Monday Escapes Pinterest Board – so if you’d like to start pinning some of your favourite photos, do get in touch.

I’m with you on not feeling like blogging over the last couple of weeks. We cancelled an upcoming trip to London — it’s the first time we’ve done this but I don’t think either of us would be able to relax and enjoy our time there. Although it’s a sad time, some comfort can be found in travel photos of places that bring back good memories 🙂
