October half term events in Gloucestershire

It feels like the school term has only just begun but the October half term holidays are this week! Make the most of the crisp autumn days and stunning autumn colours by sightseeing in Gloucestershire.  There are some fabulous events taking place over the half term holidays to entertain kids (and big kids!) and many popular tourist attractions are offering extra Halloween activities and spooky fun!

Here are a few of the best October half term events in Gloucestershire –

Slimbridge Spooktacular – WWT Slimbridge
Pumpkin hunt, show and tell session with a wizard, creepy crafts and pumpkin carving are a few of the additional activities organised to celebrate the spooky season at Slimbridge from the 22nd October – 1st November.  For our tips on visiting WWT Slimbridge click here

Halloween at the Farm Park – Cotswolds Farm Park
Face painting, spooky crafts, Halloween fancy dress and special encounters with the eco animal team are on offer at the farm park from 24th October to 1st November.  For our tips on visiting Cotswolds Farm Park click here

Steam and Scream – Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway
Join the ‘Spooky Special’ at either Cheltenham Racecourse or Toddington Station on Saturday 31st October.  Take part in a special Halloween quiz and fancy dress competition plus travel through the haunted Greet tunnel. Meet the wicked witch and join in with spooky activities including a ghost hunt at Winchcombe station.   For our tips on visiting GWR click here

Halloween Farm Trail – Primrose Vale
Follow the Halloween trail around the farm to discover various challenges, tasks and puzzles. This popular annual event is taking place 21st October – 1st November.  Thousands of home grown pumpkins, hot refreshments and goodies from the farm shop will also be available to purchase.

Gloucester Zombie Walk – Gloucester City Centre
This annual event taking place this year on Saturday 31st October involves walking through the streets of Gloucester in zombie fancy dress!  All ages are welcome to take part.   Proceeds made from the collection will benefit Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice.

Autumn Activities – At-Bristol Science Centre
Several autumn activities on offer from 22nd Oct – 1st November including creating a juice blended with seasonal vegetables in the scientific kitchen, planting magic beans in the autumn greenhouse and autumn 2D and 3D stargazing in the Planetarium. For our tips on visiting At-Bristol click here 

Picture Perfect – Westonbirt Arboretum
To truly experience autumn there is nowhere better to visit than Westonbirt Arboretum, home to 15,000 trees.  The Forestry Commission recommends October as the peak leaf-peeping time so the scenery for the upcoming October half term holidays will be incredible. From 26th – 29th October there is a trail to discover the variety of colours, shapes and textures that the trees have created plus craft activities to make a perfect picture using natural materials found on the trail. Family Halloween Fun – Over Farm, Gloucester
Lots of spooky Halloween fun for all the family including tractor-trailer rides, pumpkin picking, corn cannon firing, spooky ghost hunt, Halloween arts and crafts, inflatable rides, a variety show and puppet show plus a fancy dress competition.  Open daily from the 24th November – 1st November.

Spooktacular Halloween – Cattle Country
The attraction is promising its scariest ever Halloween event from 22nd October – 1st November with many spooky activities on offer including tractor and trailer ride around a fairytale maze, free treats being handed out by a witch, toasting marshmallows on an open fire, pumpkin carving, scarecrow trail and synthetic ice skating rink.  For our tips on visiting Cattle Country click here

Halloweek – Sudeley Castle
From 26th – 31st October visitors to Sudeley can brave blood-curdling magic shows in a spooky vault, ghost tours and themed arts and crafts.  On the Saturday 31st October there will be all the above plus face painting, a carved pumpkin display, ghostly Tudors, shows and a ‘Thriller’ dance workshop!

Halloween Witch Hunt Puzzlewood
Mischievous, colourful witches have crashed landed in Puzzlewood, the magical forest. They are hiding in the woods and are very amusing!  Event taking place 26th October – 1st November

Dragon and Halloween Extravaganza – Dean Heritage Centre 
Mischievous welsh dragons will be returning to the Heritage Centre to celebrate all things spooky over the Halloween weekend!  The attraction is promising a monster jammed day full of activities for everyone to enjoy over the weekend.  Test your fright with the Halloween trail, take part in ghoul craft activities and make decorative dragon puppets.  Taking place Halloween weekend 31st – 1st November.

      Thanks for stopping by Helena! I have been booking events for Christmas since August! LOL. I love autumn though and we are so lucky in Gloucestershire because there are so many fabulous events on offer. I hope you also manage to make some plans to make the most of autumn:)

    Plenty of fun around in your area, lovely collect it all together like this. I shall do the same for our guests staying here next week as there is plenty out and about as well as here on the farm.

    Gosh there is so much to do here. There are a few things in my local area, but not very many at all and all at the really expensive attractions. I wish we had some more things down here like you do or like they do in America around fall. We really don’t celebrate Autumn or Halloween enough in Cornwall. I think we need more country fairs and pumpkin patches with activities! Thank you so, so much for linking this to #whatevertheweather. xx
