We had the pleasure of staying at Le Moustoir Camping Carnac in a motor home for two nights during our 12 night epic road trip around Brittany in mid August. Le Moustoir Camping is a four-star family friendly campsite located in seven hectares of woodland, a short drive away from the lovely sandy beach of St Colomban and the world-famous Carnac Stones.
Review Le Moustoir Camping Carnac: Highlights of the site
We most enjoyed our large spacious pitch which gave my boys plenty of space to play outdoors and loads of space for our motor home, awning and car.
As you would expect from a four-star campsite there are lots of facilities on site. We enjoyed a morning using the two playgrounds, heated indoor and outdoor pools and particularly enjoyed riding the wavy slides and tube water slide. The indoor pools were heated and had a small jacuzzi type pool in the centre of the main pool and a kids splash area with play house. Outdoors there was a small kids splash pool and main lap pool plus pool at the bottom of the wavy slides. The outdoor pools were heated but still felt rather chilly, my boys both quickly asked to change into their wetsuits, although other children were happily playing in swim suits.
The four wave slides landed into approx. 1.10 metres of water where the tube type slide landed in just ankle-deep water so safer for weak swimmers and young children like my boys.
Other facilities on site which we didn’t have the chance to experience included restaurant (which sold mainly pizzas, burgers, mussels and frites), pony riding, zip slide and segways (just available in peak season) and kids bouncy castle. Unfortunately we also arrived late and stayed out till late on our second day and so did not experience the on site evening entertainment either such as the cabaret shows and kids/teen clubs. We were very impressed though with the range of entertainment available on site.
The small on site shop in the reception area was well stocked with freshly baked bread, croissants and all the most popular camping food and essentials. We bought a few things from there and found it be reasonable, however we did do a big shop at the local Carrefour.
We found the reception staff to be friendly and very helpful. Happily giving us directions to the local supermarket and bars.
We were impressed with the shower blocks which were older than some of the other campsites we stayed at during our 12 nights in Brittany, they were clean and functional.
Review Le Moustoir Camping Carnac: Things to keep in mind
We all felt that the use of chlorine in the pool was excessive. I actually had to leave the indoor pool as it was hurting my eyes so much, they were streaming after being in there for just ten minutes. The outdoor pool didn’t seem to have as much chlorine and my boys were fine with their goggles on.
I would highly recommend a car for exploring the local area from this campsite. The Carnac famous stones for example are just down the road but it is a busy road with no pavement as far as we could see. (There could be a path which we were not aware of but the main road would not be safe to walk along, particularly with children, as cars passed by quite quickly).
Review Le Moustoir Camping Carnac: Summary
We loved the location of Le Moustoir Camping as it has all the Carnac family attractions including Forêt Adrénaline Carnac on its doorstep. It is a friendly campsite with a good range of facilities for all ages of children. In my opinion this campsite is best suited to those who have access to a car to explore the area safely.
