Good morning and welcome to Monday Escapes #46. A travel linky which I co host with three fabulous travel bloggers – Claire from Tin Box Traveller, Karen from Mini Travellers and Sarah from Extraordinary Chaos.
My family and I have just returned from a 12 day cruise onboard P&O Cruises, Ventura. It was our first family cruise but it will certainly not be our last! It was great to back onboard a cruise ship nearly ten years after leaving our life at sea. Richard and I were both surprised at how many officers and crew we still knew working onboard and it was lovely to spend time catching up with old friends. I have shared a few videos and photos on our facebook page and Instagram account.
One of my boys favourite things to do when onboard @pandocruises Ventura was to take a walk around deck 7, the promenade deck. (This used to be my favourite way to unwind when I worked at sea too with a baseball cap and sunglasses on so passengers didn't stop me to ask about shore excursions!) Not all ships have prom decks, some allocate this space to passenger cabins or communal spaces but I personally love ships that have a deck to walk around to take in the sea air and reflect on the day. My boys were so excited to spot dolphins jumping through the ships waves during our cruise and they were fortunate to see a whale pop up to the surface too! 🐬 🐳 #cruise #cruiseship #oceanview
Back home after an incredible 12 days onboard @pandocruises Ventura. We sailed from Southampton and stopped in Vigo, Madeira, La Palma, Tenerife and Lisbon. Although my husband and I met at sea and each worked for P&O Cruises for three years this was our first family cruise, (although it will certainly not be our last!!) I was amazed at how many officers we knew still working at sea from when we left nearly 10 years ago including Captain , Ents Mgr and my old fellow colleague, Shore Excursions Mgr. #cruise #cruiseship #cruiseshipcrew #ventura #pocruises
We went onboard with my parent in-laws. The six of us have spent many weekends away together but this was our first long holiday abroad and I have to say it worked exceptionally well. Cruising truly does offer something for everyone from toddlers to OAP’s! I plan to share our tips for multi generational cruising and making the most of your time ashore by booking shore excursions over the next couple of weeks.
Before I invite you to link up I will just quickly mention the World Travel Market again. Myself and my three fellow co hosts will be attending the WTM next weeks so please do let us know by commenting below if you are planning a visit as it would be a great opportunity to meet in person. Once we have an idea of who is attending we will send a private twitter message to arrange to meet up!
Claire and I were your hosts for Monday Escapes #45. We have selected the following four posts as our favourites…
A Walk to Burra Ness Broch
We loved the level of detail Elizabeth included in her post about a walk and overnight stay on Yell in Scotland. It sounds like a magical place and we’d love to spook ourselves with a stay at Winehouse Lodge Cottage!
Alta Alella Vineyard
Last month Maria and I joined BritMums and a couple of other travel bloggers on a press trip to Costa Barcelona. We had an incredible four days reviewing some of the family friendly attractions in the region. Maria has recently posted some stunning photos highlighting our experience of a family friendly vineyard located close to Barcelona.
100+ Things to do in the UAE with Kids
We were seriously impressed with how many attractions there are to visit with kids in the UAE by Keri at Baby Globetrotters and have added the region to the top of our travel list!
10 Best Cruise Ports in Photos
Wandermust Mummy made us want to hop back on a cruise ship with her article featuring her favourite 10 cruise ship ports including Venice and Copenhagen.
Thanks to everyone who linked up to #MondayEscapes on Instagram. These were our four favourite images….

What is Monday Escapes?
Monday Escapes is a place for bloggers to link up their travel memories. The linky is all about looking back at wonderful, happy travel memories and sharing them with others.
It doesn’t have to be about a trip abroad or even be a written post. If you want to share your favourite snapshots – whether it’s a famous sight, scene, dramatic view or even a favourite family photo, then please feel free to link those up, too. Likewise, posts don’t have to be about holidays or weekends away, they can also include day trips, walks, attractions – any travel experience that you want to share.
So how do you join in?
• Link up to one post/photo – old or new. This week I am staying with the cruise theme and linking up my recent tour onboard P&O Cruises, Britannia! You will find this fortnights linky over on Karen’s blog (Mini Travellers) Monday Escapes
• Please make sure to include the new Monday Escapes badge at the bottom of the post, on your site, or a link back to the hosts.
• Posts are anything travel-related, and can include photos, reviews, days out, attractions and walks – at home or abroad.
• Comment on posts by the hosts and at least two others. Blog hops only work if you share the comment love. That’s why they’re so great!
• If you tweet any of us your links using #MondayEscapes and we will be sure to retweet. @travellovinfam, @minitravellers, @sarahjchristie, @tinboxtraveller
• Similarly, if you want to show off your photos on Instagram using #MondayEscapes, we will also show those photos some love.
What’s in it for you?
The number one thing is you’ll be sharing your fantastic posts with a like-minded community and grabbing some travel inspiration for yourself! As a bonus you have a chance to have your blog post and/or hashtagged Instagram posts featured on all four of the hosts’ blogs each fortnight, introducing your blog to even more people. How great is that?!
Monday Escapes will go live every two weeks, alternating between the hosts and will be open Monday 7am to Wednesday midnight. There is also a Monday Escapes Pinterest Board – so if you’d like to start pinning some of your favourite photos, do get in touch.
